Studies for The Wave

Carlos Schwabe was a German symbolist painter. After becoming active in symbolist circles, he soon became famous as an illustrator of mystical religious themes. He created powerful paintings through symbols that were not just familiar emblems of mainstream iconography, but rather intensely personal, obscure and ambiguous references.
The studies represent
screaming women’s faces. The slightly disturbing images testify to the exceptional graphic gifts of Schwabe.
